Highstead Welcomes New Conservation Director

Highstead Welcomes New Conservation Director

This January, Emily M. Bateson joined the Highstead staff as Conservation Director and Coordinator of the Wildlands and Woodlands Initiative.  She has more than 25 years leadership experience in regional forestland conservation, including as the co-founder and first director of Two Countries, One Forest (2C1Forest), an early and innovative landscape-scale conservation initative in the cross-border Northern Appalachian region of the US and Canada.

Bateson said, “There is no conservation issue more important or timely in New England than protection of the wildlands and woodlands that clean our air and water, safeguard our wildlife and natural diversity, and provide myriad economic, ecologic, and cultural benefits to people across the region. I welcome this opportunity to be part of the impressive team at Highstead implementing the Wildlands and Woodlands vision.”
