Landowners and Citizens
Because the majority of New England forests are privately owned, landowners and citizens are the primary stewards of our forested landscape.
Landowners and citizens can:
- Advocate for the Wildlands and Woodlands vision with government officials and take an active role in state forest conservation policy and funding.
- Reflect on the future of your property and its role in the wider landscape.
- Consider some form of protection from development now, or as part of your estate or succession plan when you pass your land on to the next generation.
- Join or create a Woodland Council or other organization active in fostering local conservation and landowner education.
- Talk with neighbors, friends, and others in your town about the options for the future of their land.
- Refer others to additional sources of information, including the New England Wildlands and Woodlands vision and local forest conservation initiatives in your state.
