Woodland Council Working Group
We are coordinators, members, and supporters of Woodland Councils across New England and New York. We collaborate in order to encourage and strengthen Woodland Councils and the functions we believe will help to double the pace of conservation in New England and beyond.
Our chair is Jay Rasku, Coordinator of the North Quabbin Regional Landscape Partnership. Jay will be working with Bill Labich, Regional Conservationist with Highstead, to convene Woodland Council champions after the New England Wildlands and Woodlands Conference on June 4, 2010.
Four Woodland Councils – North Quabbin Regional Landscape Partnership, Highland Communities Initiative, Nashua River Watershed Association, and Mass/Conn Sustainable Forest Partnership – received a 3-yr. grant from the US Forest Service to:
- Prepare municipal commissions to accept and steward conservation restrictions,
- Assist town board members in landowner outreach and conservation project management, and
- Engage foresters and their clients in land conservation initiatives.

24 Regional Partnerships/Woodland Councils across the New England are beginning to share information about what works best. We are planning a get together later in the year. Let us know if you are interested in participating.
